Mt. Vernon Park Association (MVPA) was founded in 1954 and sits on 13.2 acres of land located in Alexandria, Virginia. Its grounds include: 4 tennis courts, a baby pool, 25-meter pool and 50-meter pool, along with a playground, fishing pond, bathhouse, and pavilion.

On Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, the Board of Directors opens the park, continuing over 65 years of ongoing operation with a schedule of park-sponsored children’s and adult activities, NVSL Team Swimming and adult and junior tennis teams. The Park also holds other activities and events, throughout the summer season that conclude Labor Day.

MVPA Park Administrator

The successful candidate for MVPA Park Administrator will be organized, a self-starter, and enjoy interfacing with the public.  This is the perfect job for an educator or coach with the summer off, a retiree, or someone seeking part-time work.  This position reports to the MVPA Board of Directors.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, manage and train the park staff
  • Address the needs and concerns of all park members
  • Enforce all park rules and administer disciplinary action when necessary
  • Supervise all park activities
  • Maintain proper paperwork required by the county and state
  • Coordinate park calendar with Board, swim team, tennis teams, and member party requests
  • Ensure staff paperwork is submitted for payroll
  • Implement opening and closing procedures of the park
  • Order all necessary supplies for the park and pool
  • Monitor the daily financial transactions
  • Work with MVPA Facilities Manager to ensure upkeep of the park grounds
  • Monitor hired contractors
  • Work with MVPA Board of Directors throughout the year
  • Limited hours in the off-season

Must Have

  • Ability to work March – September.
  • Knowledge of current pool/park related health and fire codes.  Can receive training if hired.
  • Pool Operators License (can obtain once hired)
  • Ability to work with others well and manage staff from high school age and up
  • Ability to be on-call during park hours

MVPA Facility Manager

The successful candidate for Facility Manager will be a self-starter, able to manage multiple projects, and have general knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems, construction, and lawn maintenance.  This position reports to the MVPA Board of Directors Operations Committee Chair.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage Park Work-Day projects
  • Maintain park facilities and grounds throughout the year
  • Hire necessary contractors as needed
  • Perform or monitor pool maintenance throughout the year and maintain pool repair records
  • Maintain proper levels of chemistry and filter operation for pools meeting all county code requirements, and train lifeguard and pool manager staff in the same.
  • Upkeep and maintenance of park furniture and equipment
  • Upkeep and maintenance of park structures and plumbing
  • Upkeep and maintenance of park diesel tractor and electric golf cart
  • Perform or monitor maintenance of tennis courts
  • Perform or monitor lawn service
  • During off-season monitor and clean grounds and prepare all facilities for winter
  • Prepare grounds and facilities for opening of the season in the Spring
  • Report to the MVPA Board of Directors throughout the year

Must Have

  • Knowledge of current pool/park related health and fire codes
  • Pool Operators License (can obtain once hired)
  • Understanding of pool systems, large electric motors and pumps
  • Understanding of plumbing systems
  • Understanding of commercial and residential electrical systems
  • Carpentry skills
  • Ability to make minor repairs to all the above systems

MVPA Assistant Park Manager

The successful candidate for MVPA Assistant Park Manager will be a self-starter and enjoy interfacing with the public.  This position reports to the MVPA Park Administrator and is paid hourly.

Responsibilities

  • Open and close park
  • Work with Park Administrator to make sure all staffing shifts are filled
  • Evaluate staff to provide feedback and report to Park Administrator and MVPA Facilities Manager
  • Supervise park activities
  • Inspect facilities and perform tasks as needed
  • Enforce MVPA rules as necessary
  • Be available to assist membership and staff at all times
  • Ensure the park and facilities are being used appropriately and safely at all times
  • Work with MVPA Facilities Manager to ensure upkeep of the park grounds
  • Monitor hired contractors

  • Pool Operator certification (can be gained once hired)

MVPA Pool Manager

The successful candidate for MVPA Pool Manager will be a self-starter and enjoy interfacing with the public.  This position reports to the MVPA Park Administrator and is paid hourly.

Responsibilities

  • Open and close the pools
  • Work with Park Administrator and Assistant Park Managers to make sure all lifeguard staffing shifts are filled
  • Evaluate lifeguard staff to provide feedback and report to Park Administrator
  • Cover lifeguard duties as necessary
  • Monitor pool chemistry and filter operations and report to MVPA Facilities Manager
  • Inspect pool area and perform tasks as needed
  • Work with Park Administrator and Assistant Park Managers to enforce MVPA rules as necessary
  • Be available to assist membership at all times
